Our Story

Welcome to Design Theory 19, a premier interior design studio and home goods destination based in Wausau, WI. Established in 2013, Design Theory 19 serves clients throughout Wausau and surrounding communities, as well as Minocqua, Stevens Point, Park Falls, Marshfield, Madison, Door County, and beyond. With a willingness to travel wherever a project takes them—even as far as Naples, FL—the team brings professional design expertise to clients near and far. Whether you're planning a complete renovation, furnishing a new home, or simply looking for expert guidance, Design Theory 19 is dedicated to creating spaces that feel beautiful, functional, and uniquely yours.

At Design Theory 19, interior design goes beyond decorating. The experienced designers specialize in creating thoughtful, customized environments through remodeling, home construction and renovation planning, floor plans, furniture selection, lighting, window treatments, furnishings, and more. Their approach combines creativity and functionality with each client's personal style, ensuring that every design decision serves a purpose while contributing to a cohesive finished space. The team works with both residential and commercial clients, developing solutions that reflect individual needs, lifestyles, businesses, and goals.

Design Theory 19 was founded with a passion for helping people express themselves through their surroundings. Owner Mindy developed an early interest in interior design while looking through her mother's interior design magazines, eventually turning that fascination into a career. Before establishing Design Theory 19, she spent six years working for a Wausau furniture dealership specializing in commercial and healthcare interior design. Her years of professional experience, combined with her military service from 2002 to 2011, helped shape her dedication to service, leadership, and creating opportunities for others to express their true selves through design.

For clients who prefer flexibility, Design Theory 19 offers virtual design services and personalized consultations available in two-hour, four-hour, or full-day options. These services provide professional insight, practical solutions, and design direction tailored to each project's needs. Every prospective client can also take advantage of a complimentary 20-minute discovery call to discuss their ideas, goals, and expectations and determine whether the Design Theory 19 team is the right fit.

In addition to design services, the Design Theory 19 home goods store features an extensive selection of pillows, furniture, wallpaper, and home décor. When clients need something specific, the team can also assist with sourcing and custom orders to complete their desired look. With a talented team of designers, a commitment to personalized service, and a passion for creating meaningful spaces, Design Theory 19 is ready to help transform your vision into a home or commercial environment that truly reflects you.

On 8/23/2024 Lois Stieber had this to say:
Working with Design Theory 19 has been a great experience. I had a vision of what I wanted, but I know I needed professional help to get me there. What’s so great about Mindy and her staff is that they offer not only design assistance, but they also act as a project manager, finding reputable subcontractors to come into my home and do quality work. After having completed my kitchen update a few years ago, I came back to them for my master bedroom and bathroom update. I love their timely response to my inquiries, follow through, and attention to the small details. Design Theory 19 has my complete confidence and trust.

On 3/31/2024 Julie Rybacki had this to say:

They were always available for ideas, samples, timelines, etc. I would highly recommend Design Theory 19 for your interior design needs.
